Boozah Brewery Scout: Ilkley Brewery
About the brewery
Ilkley Brewery is one of great history with the original brewery in Ilkley being founded in 1873. They say they draw inspiration from theirroots but maintain a focus on the future and their unique interpretation of what beer should, and can be. They do this with constant innovation and development. We brew beers to suit every palate, enlivening the beer choice and pushing boundaries.
Ilkley Brewer also has a firm focus on ethics and sustainability. We are in it together. We have bold ideas. Each of us has a voice and we love what we do. We always strive to play a role in our local and the wider community, championing causes and charities, and supporting independent and sustainable businesses wherever possible. This is evidenced by the fact they brew with Simpsons Malt (a 5th generation family business) and source hops from Charles Farham Hop Merchants. They have have ties with some of the best pubs such as Bar T’at in Ilkley and Whitlock's Ale House, the oldest pub in Leeds.
A few beers from Kirkstall that we at Boozah would recommend
Mary Jane: This session pale is our top pick at Boozah. Intensely refreshing, with citrus aroma and balanced bitterness. Named after the character from the Yorkshire anthem “Ont Ilkla Moor Baht’at”
Slake: This is a brilliantly simple lager with nothing to dislike. It is a beautifully golden, refreshing lager with a lovely biscuity aroma.
Pale: This is a class all day pale. Crisp and dry with a zesty finish and fresh-cut grass aroma. Powerfully hopped for a floral finish and described as the Sauvignon Blanc of the beer world.
Honourable mentions
Joshua Jane - Everything that is great about traditional Yorkshire bitter, fused with Ilkley Brewery’s unique hop character. Named after Mary Jane’s suitor, ont’ Ilkla Moor baht’at… Rich nut-brown colour and the soft caramel flavour is fused with our unique hop character.
